10 Freakiest Celebrity Diseases

by Erick Rappaport on Monday, November 23, 2009 10:48 AM
We've all heard that health problems don't discriminate, and nowhere is this more true than in the case of these 10 celebrities. At the end of the day, famous people are just like us, and are susceptible to the same sickness and disease that afflict the general population. Whether it be through no fault of their own or because of an outrageous lifestyle, these notable names have all made our list through the most abnormal of conditions. Here are the 10 freakiest celebrity diseases.
#1
Michael Jackson
Disease: Vitiligo

The King of Pop will be remembered for a lot of great things. Here, we remember him for bringing Vitiligo, a disease that causes blotchy discoloration of the skin, into the spotlight. An explanation for the rest of Michael Jackson's abnormalities has yet to come out. Too soon?
#2
Pamela Anderson
Disease: Hepatitis C

Pamela Anderson is not alone. After most likely contracting the disease from a tattoo needle or Tommy Lee’s needle, Ms. Anderson joins the ranks of several other hardcore party-goers who also reside in this elite club. Steven Tyler, Natalie Cole, and Natasha Lyonne can all call Hep C their friend. And they can call us from someplace else.
#3
Natasha Lyonne
Disease: Heart Infection, Hepatitis C

Ever have one of those mornings where you wake up and wonder what the hell you did the night before? If so, it was probably nothing compared to what Natasha Lyonne experienced after being admitted to the hospital for Hepatitis C, collapsed lungs, a heart infection, a highway of track marks all over her body, and charges of dog molestation. Dog molestation? Someone tell Michael Vick he’s off the hook.
#4
Cher
Disease: Epstein-Barr Virus

Oh sweet Jesus!!! Is Cher going to die?! Not quite. Turns out that somewhere along the way the multi-decade diva contracted what’s known as the Epstein-Barr Virus. Chances are you probably have it too. The virus that afflicts 95% of Americans is actually of the Herpes family. All together now…. “Ewww.” As for dark-maned songstress, she has nothing to worry about. As the old adage goes, when all of civilization is gone, the two things that will be left are cockroaches and Cher.
#5
Tom Sizemore
Disease: Priapism

They say that what goes up must come down, except in Tom Sizmore’s case. OK… the jokes practically write themselves on this one. Exhibit A) We have an actor whose name is Tom Sizemore. Exhibit B) He admits to suffering from Priapism, a medical condition in which a hard-on doesn’t know when to quit… literally. Tom’s manager says, “He can have sex nine times without stopping.” How Tom’s manager knows this is a whole different article. Side note: Priapism came from the Greek god Priapus, who as punishment from the other gods for attempting to rape a fellow colleague (aka goddess) was given a set of wooden genitals. Thank you, Tom, for giving us this wonderful opportunity to learn. We “salute” you!
#6
Russell Brand
Disease: Sex Addiction

Seriously? Of all people to have a sex addiction, it’s this guy?? Once again, all together now, “Ewww!”
#7
Jimmy Kimmel
Disease: Narcolepsy

We may now know why Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel had to call it quits. He must’ve been falling asleep through her ‘comedic routines’… if you call sex comedic. The late-night-loud-mouth has long been rumored to suffer from narcolepsy, a disorder that causes one to inadvertently fall asleep for short periods of time. Not to be confused with your uncontrollable urge to fall asleep during his show.
#8
Seal
Disease: Lupus

Mr. Heidi Klum is living the high life now with a supermodel wife, unparalleled singing voice, and all the suit jackets one man can own. However, things weren’t always so upbeat for this superstar in love. When Seal was younger, he was afflicted with an auto-immune condition known as discoid lupus erythometosus, which caused his immune cells to attack various body tissues, particularly around his face and scalp. The condition led to his severe facial scarring, which hasn’t seemed to interfere at all with his sex-symbol status.
#9
Danny Glover
Disease: Epilepsy

While Danny's disease isn't uncommon, his method of treatment is rather freaky. Known affectionately by me as Mel Gibson’s better half in Lethal Weapon 1-13, Danny Glover was first diagnosed with Epilepsy during his teen years and suffered from seizures throughout his young adulthood. He says that he eventually developed a way of concentrating so that the seizures would no longer happen. If only I could use that same concentration to try and forget about his latest movie, 2012.
#10
Christy Turlington
Disease: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Christy Turlington was once one of the most famous faces in the world, gracing hundreds of magazine covers during her career. This 90's supermodel could be seen from miles away, not because of her star quality, but because she was literally a smoke stack. She was first diagnosed with early stage emphysema at the ripe old age of 31. The former deuce-pack-a-day smoker started smoking an entire pack each day when she was only 16. That’s what we call greedy. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, otherwise known as COPD, is fatal. However, if caught early enough, the disease can be manageable.
