History of Method Acting on Film

With the addition of Mickey Rourke to the Iron Man 2 cast, the franchise gained another thespian trained in the Method, an acting technique in which actors immerse themselves in their characters, both internally and externally. Robert Downey, Jr. and Terrence Howard (may he R.I.P.)are also known to use the Method. The technique originated in New York City's Group Theater in the 1930s, but didn't gain prominence until Marlon Brando wowed audiences with his raw, no-holds-barred performances in films like On the Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire. The graphic below shows the many actors who have utilized method acting over the last 60 years.
